SRD Grant applicants will receive an SMS once their grant is available for withdrawal, from approved retail merchants (Checkers, Pick N Pay, Shoprite and Boxer Stores) or banks.

Why is my SASSA status pending?

A “Pending” status means SASSA is still verifying your application for that specific month. This may happen because of:

  • Verification delays
  • Home Affairs identity checks
  • SARS income verification
  • NSFAS funding checks
  • UIF database checks
  • Banking verification delays
  • High application volumes

Pending statuses are common and usually update once monthly checks are completed.

How long does SASSA verification take?

SASSA verification times vary each month depending on the number of applications received. In most cases, verification can take several days to a few weeks.

Delays may occur during:

  • Peak application periods
  • Public holidays
  • Banking verification checks
  • Identity verification with Home Affairs

SASSA performs monthly verification checks before approving payments.

What can I do if my SRD grant application was declined?

If after conducting a SASSA status check, you see that your application is declined, you have the right to appeal the SASSA decision. To do this, you must lodge an appeal with the Department of Social Development for each month that your application was declined.

If your application has been declined for any period from April 2022, be sure to submit an appeal by visiting the DSD appeals.

The process to appeal will be provided to you and a notification that your application has been declined.
