Bursaries will be awarded to top-performing students, for undergraduate studies within the following fields:

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE HARMONY BURSARY?

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 21 days after the closing date. If you do not receive any feedback, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview and undergo assessments, before final selection is made.

WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE HARMONY BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

• You must be a South African citizen
• You must be between 18 and 35 years old
• You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
• You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification within one of the above fields of study
• You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised public tertiary institution of higher learning in South Africa (the bursary will NOT fund studies at TVET Colleges)
• You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% for all subjects in Matric National Senior Certificate
• Engineering students: you must have achieved a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics and Physical Science
• Current university students: you must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in all major modules
• You must NOT be receiving any other bursary or sponsorship programme
• Preference may be given to:
  • students pursuing studies in core mining fields
  • students from Harmony host communities (in Gauteng, North-West and Free State)
  • students from Harmony labour-sending areas
  • dependents of Harmony employees
  • historically disadvantaged persons

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE HARMONY BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

• ID document (certified copy)
• Grade 11 final results and Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
• Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
• Full academic record, including most recent results, if currently studying (certified copy)
• Proof of current registration or enrolment at a tertiary institution, if available (on institutions letterhead)
• Proof of application if you have not received provisional acceptance yet
• Proof of address
• Curriculum Vitae (maximum 3 pages)
• Photograph, to be attached to the application form (passport sized)

WHAT DOES HARMONY DO?

Harmony Gold Mining Company Limited (Harmony) is an established mining company with more than 70 years of experience in the industry. The company is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) under the ticker HAR, with a secondary listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker HMY.

Harmony is primarily known for its gold mining operations and is the largest gold producer in South Africa by volume. The company also operates gold tailings retreatment facilities and has expanded its mineral portfolio to include significant copper interests. Its international operations include the Hidden Valley mine and a 50% interest in the Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project in Papua New Guinea. In Australia, Harmony owns the Eva Copper project in Queensland, which is being developed as a near-term copper project.

As part of its commitment to developing skills and creating opportunities in the communities where it operates, Harmony offers a bursary programme for students pursuing full-time tertiary studies. The Harmony bursary scheme is primarily aimed at recruiting and supporting students from communities surrounding its mining operations, while also accommodating eligible students already enrolled at tertiary institutions.

The programme provides financial support to selected students studying at accredited tertiary institutions, helping them pursue qualifications that can contribute to the future skills pipeline of the mining and related industries. Both students entering tertiary education and those who are already studying may be considered for the bursary, subject to the programme’s requirements and selection criteria.
