WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE CAPITEC BURSARY COVER?

Capitec is inviting students to apply for their external bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate Bachelors or Honours studies in fields that are critical to the future of banking and financial services (NQF level 7 or higher), including the following fields:

  • Actuarial Science
  • Computer Science
  • Digital Marketing
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Information Systems
  • Information Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Quantitative Management
  • Statistics

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE CAPITEC BURSARY COVER?

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, and meal allowance.

Students will also gain work readiness training and onboarding experience, to support their transition into the world of work.

Bursaries are awarded for 1 year and are renewable annually based on academic performance, student engagement, and sponsor budgets.

WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF THE CAPITEC BURSARY?

After graduation, students will be required to work for Capitec for the equal duration of funding received. This will allow for students to gain workplace readiness skills to help transition into the working world.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE CAPITEC BURSARY?

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 3 months of the closing date. If you do not receive any feedback by this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Candidates may be required to undergo screening, shortlisting, interview, and psychometric assessments, as part of the selection process.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE CAPITEC BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying for the bursary (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above (NQF7 or higher: Bachelors Degree/ Honours) (the bursary does NOT cover N4/5/6, Higher Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Masters or Doctoral students)
  • You must be entering your 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2027
  • You must be registered to study at a DHET/ CHE registered tertiary Institution (university, college, Private Colleges, etc) (the bursary does NOT cover studies at TVET Colleges, Community Colleges, Graduate/ Business School, or Distance-learning Student ie. UNISA, etc)
  • You must achieve a Bachelor’s Pass with a minimum average of 65% in Matric
  • You must achieve a a minimum average of 65% for the latest full academic-years (2025 and 2026 so far), if currently studying
  • You must have a strong academic record and be committed to your studies
  • You must have a passion for technology, data, and business
  • Preference will be given to students on track to finish their qualification in the minimum-time required (not N+1 or higher) and students in line with the sponsor’s transformation/ employment equity objectives and requirements

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE CAPITEC BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final report and Grade 12 latest (Term 2) school report with school stamp, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Latest/ June 2026 Official Academic Transcripts, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • 2026 official university fee statements
  • Lease agreement, if living in off-campus accommodation
  • Full Tertiary Academic Records for all years of tertiary study or police affidavit stating why the student was not schooling (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians ID documents/ passport/ death certificate (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (3 months latest payslips if employed/ company registration documents if self Employed/ police affidavits if unemployed/ SASSA documents if receiving a social grant)
  • Funding confirmation contracts, letters or offers if receiving NSFAS funding/ police affidavit if never received NSFAS funding
  • Funding confirmation contracts, letters or offers if receiving another bursary/ police affidavit if never received funds from another bursary or funding award
  • Consent form signed and completed by parent/ legal guardian and their certified ID copy, if under 18 years old
  • Department of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Diagnosis Letter from Doctor, if disabled
