WHAT DOES THE SAIEE DO?
The South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) is a non-profit professional organisation established in 1909 to advance electrical and electronic engineering in South Africa and the wider Southern African region. With approximately 6,000 members, the institute brings together engineers, technologists, technicians, researchers and other professionals working across industries such as power generation, mining, telecommunications, electronics, manufacturing and measurement and control.
The SAIEE promotes professional development and knowledge sharing through technical training, conferences, lectures, publications and networking opportunities. It also works to strengthen engineering education, encourage innovation and support the development of future engineering professionals.
An important part of its educational contribution is its bursary and scholarship programmes, which provide financial assistance to eligible students pursuing electrical or computer engineering qualifications at South African tertiary institutions. The institute also offers postgraduate research scholarship opportunities in specialised engineering fields. Through these initiatives, the SAIEE helps develop engineering talent and supports the long-term growth of the profession in South Africa.
