WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY COVER?

Valterra Platinum is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

  • Geotechnical (Rock Engineering)
  • Geomatics (Mine Surveying)
  • Mining Engineering

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY COVER?

The bursary will provide cover for tuition fees for the full duration of your studies, up to Honours level. It will also cover accommodation in university residence and meals, where applicable.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

Geotechnical (Rock Engineering) Bursary:

  • You must be studying full-time towards a mining or geology qualification
  • You must be a final-year undergraduate student in 2026
  • You must be a prospective honours student in 2027
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent results 
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must be keen to pursue a career in Geotechnical (Rock Engineering)
  • You must join the Valterra Platinum graduate programme, after graduation and rotate across all the Valterra Platinum Mines (Amandelbult; Mogalakwena and Mototolo)
  • Preference will be given to learners from communities in and around Valterra Platinum’s operations, in line with our commitment to local socio-economic development (processing operations are located in Rustenburg, North West Province and in Polokwane, Limpopo Province; and mines are located in Thabazimbi, Burgersfort and Mokopane in the Limpopo Province)

Geomatics (Mine Surveying) Bursary:

  • You must be currently in Matric in 2026 and be entering your 1st year of undergraduate studies in 2027, towards the following qualification: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Surveying) / Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying)
  • OR
  • You must be a final-year undergraduate student in 2026, studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Surveying) / Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mine Surveying and be a prospective honours student in 2027
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent results 
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must join the Valterra Platinum graduate programme, after graduation and rotate across all the Valterra Platinum Mines (Amandelbult; Mogalakwena and Mototolo)

  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent results 
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must join the Valterra Platinum graduate programme, after graduation and rotate across all the Valterra Platinum Mines (Amandelbult; Mogalakwena and Mototolo)

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online bursary application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Full academic record/ transcript (every year of study including the current year) 
  • CV, detailing any extra-curricular activities or any volunteering opportunities
  • Proof of address (municipal account or letter from a local tribal authority)   
  • Proof of Honours acceptance, once available
