ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION

The FirstRand Foundation was established in 1998, as a way for FirstRand Limited and their major franchises (FNB, RMB and WesBank) to direct their individual and collective corporate social investment. Since the Foundation was formed, it has received 1% of FirstRand Limited’s net profit after tax (NPAT).
 

ABOUT THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION BURSARY PROGRAMME

The FirstRand Foundation is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2024 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Honours studies in ANY field.

(The FirstRand Foundation Trust is also offering bursaries for undergraduate degree studies).

The FirstRand Foundation Trust (FNB, RMB, WesBank) has appointed the Tomorrow Trust to administer their postgraduate bursaries. The bursary is a combined arrangement between FirstRand Foundation Trust and Tomorrow Trust.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • You must be in your final year of full-time undergraduate studies in 2023 OR you must have completed your undergraduate studies between January 2021 and December 2023 and not be currently studying
  • You must be entering postgraduate degree studies in 2024
  • You must have completed Matric with a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% in your undergraduate degree studies
  • You must have a combined gross family income of NOT more than R600 000 per annum
  • Preference will be given to students as defined by the BBBEE Act

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION BURSARY

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Latest official transcript (on university letterhead)
  • Honours acceptance letter
  • Motivational Letter, including the following: why you chose your field of study and your plans for your qualification after graduation
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of SASSA grant or pension if applicable/ death certificates or affidavit if deceased) (to be combined into 1 single pdf document)

 

SELECTION FOR THE FIRSTRAND FOUNDATION BURSARY PROGRAMME

All applicants will receive confirmation of their application via email.

Applicants will be notified if their application was unsuccessful.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend interviews. If you do not receive any feedback within 4 months of the closing date, please consider your application unsuccessful.
