WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE SAIBPP BURSARY COVER?

The South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies within the Built Environment, property and real estate sectors, including the following:

  • Finance (Property)
  • Property Development
  • Property Management
  • Property Studies
  • Property Valuation & Management
  • Real Estate
  • other related qualifications

The fund has supported students through funding raised for bursary initiatives in recent years. SAIBPP previously reported that R10.3 million had been raised between 2021 and 2025; however, the organisation’s current bursary information does not state an updated cumulative amount, so this figure should not be presented as the fund’s current total.

WHAT IS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THE SAIBPP BURSARY?

Bursary recipients will be selected based on 2 main criteria: financial need and academic potential.

The bursary will provide full coverage for tuition fees. It may also cover study materials, allowances and accommodation expenses.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE SAIBPP BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards an undergraduate or postgraduate (up until Honours) degree qualification in one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at any institution of higher learning in South Africa
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must have proven financial need
  • You must be willing to become a student member of SAIBPP and engage in community outreach initiatives

HOW CAN I APPLY FOR THE SAIBPP BURSARY?

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE SAIBPP BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric June results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Grade 12 (certified copy)
  • 2025 final results, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Latest results, if not studying this year (certified copy)
  • Final results or progress report of all subjects, if examinations were not written (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension if applicable)
  • 2 testimonials (1 from an educational official and 1 from a community leader or personal associate)
  • Motivational essay to support your application (see page 9 of the application form – maximum 500 words) (read our tips on how to write a motivational letter for your bursary application)

WHAT DOES THE SAIBPP DO?

The South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) is a non-profit organisation established in 1996 to promote greater transformation and participation of black South Africans in the property industry. The organisation works to create opportunities for individuals and businesses from historically disadvantaged backgrounds to build careers and enterprises within the property sector.

Through initiatives focused on skills development, enterprise development, education and industry policy, SAIBPP aims to address barriers that have limited black participation in the commercial property market. Its programmes support the development of property professionals and entrepreneurs while contributing to a more inclusive and representative South African property industry.
