Rheinmetall Denel Munition (Pty) Ltd (RDM) is majority owned by Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH of Germany and minority owned by Denel (Pty) Ltd, South Africa. RDM is one of the leading global developers and manufacturers of defence related ammunition and rocket and missile systems, specialising in large-calibre and medium-calibre ammunition families.
The company has its head office in Somerset West, Western Cape; while their manufacturing sites are located in Wellington, Western Cape, Boskop, North West and Boksburg, Gauteng.
RDM’s main focus countries are in Asia, the Middle East, South America, South Africa and African countries.
ABOUT THE RHEINMETALL DENEL MUNITION BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
Rheinmetall Denel Munition is inviting students to apply for their external bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Engineering (at NQF level 7 or higher).
The aim of the bursary program is to address South Africa’s shortage of specialized talent, with a particular emphasis on developing engineering expertise.

MORE ABOUT THE RDM BURSARY PROGRAMME – SELECTION
Selection will take place during November and December 2024, and thereafter, shortlisted candidates will be contacted via email by no later than 20 December 2024. If you do not receive any feedback by 10 January 2025, please contact the Training and Development Department (contact details can be found below).

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RDM BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards your first Engineering degree or diploma, at undergraduate level (the programme must be 6 months or longer and must be within the scope of RDM)
- You must be studying or have achieved admission to study at public university or university of technology in South Africa
- You must have achieved/ will achieve a Bachelor’s Pass in Matric, with a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics and/or Physical Sciences (the bursary will NOT fund students who completed Matric/ SC with Mathematics Literacy)
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 75% in the year that you are applying for the bursary
- You must have a strong academic record
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE RDM BURSARY
Download and complete the RDM Bursary Application Form 2025 (.pdf)
Enter “www.zabursaries.co.za” in the field asking how you heard about the RDM bursary.
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application will be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Grade 11 final results and Matric mid-year results, if currently in Matric
- Matric final results/ certificate and 2024 mid-year academic results, if currently studying in 1st year
- Most recent academic year results and 2024 mid-year academic results, if currently studying in 2nd or 3rd year
- Proof of Registration or Acceptance letter from tertiary institution
- Quotation or Pro-forma Invoice from your institution for tuition fees
- Programme outline for your course
- Motivational letter to support your application (read our tips on how to write a motivational letter for your bursary application)
