ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – UFS

The University of the Free State (UFS) is one of the oldest and most reputable South African tertiary institutions. It opened its doors in 1904 and was then known as Grey University. Today, this institution consists of many campuses with two diverse ones in Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa, housing more than 40 000 students in seven faculties. Over the years, UFS has seen an increasing amount of international students and associates as well as a growth in community involvement.

The University of the Free State (UFS) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2024 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Honours and Masters studies at UFS, to students in need of financial support.

MORE ABOUT THE UFS BURSARY PROGRAMME – VALUE & OBLIGATION

Students will receive funding to the value of R41 000 each.

Bursary recipients will be required to be available for 120 hours during the academic year for duties as CTL tutors, student and academic assistants and markers, with responsibilities as assigned to them by the university. Students will be paid for these hours while completing their studies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE UFS BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
Honours bursary applicants:

  • You must have achieved a minimum final mark average of 70%
  • You must intend on applying for and completing a Master’s degree, after completion of the Honours degree
  • You must meet the admission requirements of the Faculty at UFS

Masters bursary applicants:

  • You must have achieved a minimum Honours mark of 70%
