ABOUT THE ECDOE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDOE) is inviting students to apply for their unemployed bursary programme, for the 2025 academic year.

The department will be awarding the following bursaries, to students residing within the Eastern Cape:
1. Military Veteran Dependents Bursary: for unemployed youth who are Military Veteran Dependants.

2. Unemployed Youth with Disabilities Bursary: for unemployed youth with disabilities who are former students of ECDoE Special Schools. The following programmes are targeted to be offered:

  • Art (Music, Ceramic Designs, Fine Arts)
  • Assistant Chef Programme
  • Auto body and painting
  • Beadmaking
  • Boiler making
  • Dress making
  • Hair Dressing
  • Handyman Program (Tiling and Plastering, Bricklaying, Carpentry, Plumbing and Painting)
  • Holistic Massage and Beauty

3. PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) Bursary: for unemployed youth who are keen to pursue Teaching as a profession. The bursary will cover PGCE studies in FET Phase (Pure Mathematics, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Geography and Technical Subjects).

4. B Ed (Bachelor of Education degree) Bursary: for unemployed youth who are keen to pursue Teaching as a profession. The bursary will cover the following phases:
Foundation Phase (Grades R – 3):
Educators that can teach in both a Language of Learning and Content:

  • English
  • Afrikaans
  • IsiXhosa
  • Sesotho
  • Mathematics
  • Braille
  • SASL
  • Neurodevelopmental Needs
  • Remedial Teaching

Intermediate Phase (Grades 4 – 6):
Educators that can teach in both a Language of Learning and Content:

  • English
  • Afrikaans
  • IsiXhosa
  • Sesotho
  • Mathematics
  • Braille
  • SASL
  • Natural Sciences & Technology
  • Neurodevelopmental Needs
  • Remedial Teaching

MORE ABOUT THE ECDOE BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses:

  • 1. Military Veteran Dependents Bursary: Registration, Tuition, Residence, Meals and Books, up to maximum of R100 000.
  • 2. Unemployed Youth with Disabilities Bursary: Registration, Tuition, Residence, Meals and Books. The bursary may also pat for Tuition, Venues and Catering, if the applicant is selected for skills programme.
  • 3. PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) Bursary: not confirmed.
  • 4. B Ed (Bachelor of Education degree) Bursary: not confirmed.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ECDOE BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
1. Military Veteran Dependents Bursary:

  • You must be a dependant of a Military Veteran
  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • You must reside within the Eastern Cape province
  • You must be unemployed
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards a qualification in ANY field
  • You must be registered or accepted to study at a registered public Higher Education Institution in South Africa
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need with a strong academic record

2. Unemployed Youth with Disabilities Bursary:

  • You must be living with a disability
  • You must be a former ECDoE learner of ECDoE Special School
  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 45 years old
  • You must reside within the Eastern Cape province
  • You must be unemployed
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must be registered or accepted to study at a registered public Higher Education Institution in South Africa
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need with a strong academic record

3. PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) Bursary:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • You must reside within the Eastern Cape province
  • You must be unemployed
  • You must be studying towards a PGCE qualification, with a minimum of 2 Teaching Subjects
  • You must be registered or accepted to study at a registered public Higher Education Institution in South Africa
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need with a strong academic record

4. B Ed (Bachelor of Education degree) Bursary:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  • You must reside within the Eastern Cape province
  • You must be unemployed
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying towards a B Ed qualification, as listed above
  • You must be registered or accepted to study at a registered public Higher Education Institution in South Africa
  • Preference will be given to students in financial need with a strong academic record
