WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE ENERGY MOBILITY EDUCATION TRUST SCHOLARSHIP COVER?

The Energy Mobility Education Trust is inviting students to apply for their scholarship programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Scholarships will be awarded for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, within these fields, at selected institutions (WITS, UJ, UP, NWU, UL, UWC):

WHAT EXPENSES ARE COVERED BY THE EMET SCHOLARSHIP?

The scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, accommodation, meals and a stipend.

Students will also receive a laptop, textbooks and learning resources, as well as mentorship and psychosocial support.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE EMET SCHOLARSHIP?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be 32 years old or younger
  • You must be Black, as defined by the B-BBEE Act
  • You must be studying towards a qualification within one of the fields listed above
  • You must be entering your final year of undergraduate studies or postgraduate studies (Honours, Masters or PhD)
  • You must be studying at one of the Trust’s current scholarship partner universities:
    • University of the Witwatersrand (WITS)
    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)
    • University of Pretoria (UP)
    • North-West University (NWU)
    • University of Limpopo (UL)
    • University of the Western Cape (UWC)
  • You must have a total household income of NOT more than R600 000 per annum

WHAT DOES EMET DO?

The Energy Mobility Education Trust was established in 2014 by bp Southern Africa (bpSA), originally operating as the BPSA Education Foundation Trust. As its mission expanded beyond its initial focus, the organisation adopted the name Energy Mobility Education Trust to better reflect its broader commitment to supporting education and skills development in South Africa.

The Trust is dedicated to empowering talented young Black South Africans by improving access to tertiary education, accredited training programmes and career-focused skills development opportunities. Through financial assistance and educational support, it aims to help students gain the qualifications needed to build successful careers and contribute to the country’s future workforce.

Over the past decade, the Trust has invested approximately R262 million in education, providing funding to more than 4,387 students as they pursue higher education and professional development.
