Western Cape Government Graduate Internship 2026/ 2027
ABOUT THE WESTERN CAPE GOVERNMENT INTERNSHIP
The Western Cape Government is inviting unemployed graduates to apply for their Graduate Internship programme. Applications are open until 2 March 2026.
The programme is open to youth residing in the Western Cape. Through this Youth Development Programme, the government aims to equip graduates with valuable practical work experience, for a period of 3-24 months.
The programme is based in Cape Town, CBD. Learners will receive a stipend, of an amount which will be paid as determined by the Department.
There is no specific start date – application are kept on the Departments database for a 12 month duration.
On-the-job training will be provided in one of the following departments:
- Agriculture
- Cultural Affairs and Sport
- Department of Infrastructure
- Department of the Premier
- Economic Development and Tourism
- Environmental Affairs & Development Planning
- Local Government
- Mobility Department
- Police Oversight and Community Safety
- Provincial Treasury
- Social Development

The Western Cape Government is the provincial authority responsible for governing and delivering public services in the Western Cape, South Africa. It focuses on areas like health, education, safety, and economic development to improve residents’ quality of life.

Learners will acquire skills and work experience that will make them more desirable to future employers. They will also acquire contactable references on their CV and gain career awareness exposure to assist them in making informed career choices together with a network to support and guide them.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INTERNSHIP PROVIDER
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be between 20 and 35 years old
- You must be unemployed
- You must be residing in the Western Cape
- You must be a graduate, who is in possession of a completed:
Certificate (NQF 5)/ Diploma (NQF 6)/ Degree (NQF 7)/ Post Graduate Qualification (NQF 8 and higher) - You must be keen to gain practical work experience
- You must be financially constrained and do not have a network or support to help you make career choices
- You must have good communication skills (written and verbal), in at least 2 of the official languages of the Western Cape
- You must have good computer literacy skills (MS Office)
- You must be able to operate office equipment
- You must have good planning and organisation skills
