WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY ARE COVERED BY THE RAND WEST MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

The Executive Mayor of Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM), is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to students residing within the Rand West City Local Municipality (Gauteng), for undergraduate and artisan training studies within the following fields:

  • Agriculture
  • Energy
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Health
  • Finance
  • Information Technology
  • Mining
  • Public and Business Management
  • * and other Scarce and Critical Skills as informed by the needs of Municipality and any other field at the discretion of the Executive Mayor

WHAT EXPENSES ARE COVERED BY THE RAND WEST MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: registration fees, tuition fees and study materials.

The bursary may also cover accommodation and food allowance for selected applicant, as per individual student needs.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE RAND WEST MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must reside within the Rand West City Local Municipality, in Gauteng province
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric with a University/ University of Technology/ TVET admission
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full time towards an undergraduate qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above (the bursary will NOT fund postgraduate studies)
  • You must be studying or have been provisionally accepted to study at a public University or public institution of higher learning in South Africa
  • Your qualification must be for a minimum of 1 or 3/4 academic years
  • Your parents/ guardian must have a total joint household income of NOT more than R350 000 per annum
  • Preference will be given to students from families who are registered on indigent database categories
  • Preference will be given to students from a disadvantaged background

Submit copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric
  • Recent academic record, if currently studying
  • Proof of application/ admission/ provisional admission to a tertiary institution (with projected study duration, course scope and tuition costs)
  • Proof of residence
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents death certificate, if deceased (certified copies)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed or self employed/ proof of social grant if applicable)
  • Doctors certificate, if permanently disabled

WHAT DOES RAND WEST CITY LOCAL MUNICIPALITY DO?

Rand West City Local Municipality is a local government authority in Gauteng and forms part of the West Rand District Municipality. It was established following the 2016 local government elections through the merger of the former Randfontein and Westonaria local municipalities.

The municipality is responsible for delivering essential municipal services and supporting economic and community development across the areas under its jurisdiction. Through its various programmes and initiatives, Rand West City Municipality also contributes to creating opportunities for residents, including young people pursuing further education and skills development.
