WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY COVER?

The ABB Education Trust is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to Black Female students, preferably for Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Diploma studies, within the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be a Female
  • You must be a Black (Black as defined in the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act 46 of 2013, is a generic term which means African, Coloured and Indian)
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must be studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must have completed your 1st year of study with a minimum overall average of 60%
  • You must be entering your 2nd or higher year of study in 2027
  • You must be studying at a recognised and accredited university in South Africa
  • You must have a total household income LESS than R600 000 per annum
  • Black female students with disabilities are encouraged to apply

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST BURSARY?

After completing the online application, submit the following supporting documentation in PDF format via email to: ZA-ZA-EducationTrust@abb.com

(the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Full academic record since Matric
  • Proof of university registration for 2027 academic year
  • University fees statement for 2027 academic year
  • Proof of student accommodation and costs or proof of travel cost estimates if staying at home
  • Parents or guardians proof of household income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of social grant or pension if applicable)

WHAT DOES THE ABB EDUCATION TRUST DO?

The ABB Education Trust is an independently operated South African educational trust focused on improving access to tertiary education and developing future engineering professionals. Its primary aim is to address the under-representation of Black women in engineering by providing financial assistance to academically capable students who face financial barriers to completing their studies. The Trust supports eligible students pursuing qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering at recognised South African universities.

Through its bursary programme, it seeks to nurture engineering talent, promote greater diversity within the technical sector and help create opportunities for young women to build successful careers. Although the Trust uses the ABB name under licence, it operates independently and is not affiliated with, or an agent or partner of, the ABB Group.
