ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – VALTERRA PLATINUM
Valterra Platinum, previously known as Anglo-American Platinum, is one of the world’s top producers of platinum group metals (PGMs). The company operates mines, smelting plants, and refineries in South Africa and Zimbabwe, and sells its metals to customers all over the world.
After separating from its former parent company, Anglo American plc, Valterra Platinum is now an independent business. It is listed on both the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in South Africa and the London Stock Exchange in the United Kingdom.
As an independent company, Valterra Platinum can now set its own goals and strategies. It focuses on working efficiently, protecting the environment, and creating long-term value. The company manages the entire process of producing PGMs – from mining them out of the ground to delivering them to the market.

ABOUT THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED
Valterra Platinum is inviting students to apply for their Community Bursary Programme, for the 2026 academic year.
Bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate studies in ANY field (NQF Level 6 or 7), for students residing in host communities of Valterra Platinum’s following operations, including:
- Amandelbult Mine (Limpopo)
- Mogalakwena Mine (Limpopo)
- Mototolo Mine (Limpopo)
- Polokwane Smelter (Limpopo)
- Rustenburg Processing and Smelting Operations: Mortimer Smelter, Convertor Plant (CP), Base Metal Refinery (BMR), Precious Metal Refinery (PMR), Waterval Smelter (North West)
- Twickenham Project (Limpopo)
The bursary programme is aimed at providing critical opportunities to learners and students from host communities who face socio-economic vulnerability and are less likely to secure financial support elsewhere.

MORE ABOUT THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED, RENEWAL & SELECTION
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition, accommodation and allowance. The final value of the bursary will be determined by the specific needs of the student, and per the approval and discretion of the Trustees.
The bursary will cover studies for the entire duration of the qualification. However, renewal will be conditional based on academic performance during the funded year of study.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must reside within one of the operational sites’ host communities as listed above
- You must currently reside in, or have completed majority of your schooling within a Valterra Platinum host community
- You must have completed Matric in 2024 or 2025
- You must be between 18 and 25 years old
- You must be enrolled or accepted to study towards your first undergraduate programme (NQF Level 6 or 7) in ANY field, which must be fully accredited with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA)
- You must be enrolled or accepted into a 3 year full-time programme, or will complete their studies within 3 years (no later than December 2028)
- You must be enrolled or have been accepted at a registered higher educational institution (public or private institution)
- You must NOT be a child of a Valterra Platinum Ltd employee
- Preference will be given to vulnerable groups, including orphans and vulnerable children,
unemployed households, and child-headed households
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE VALTERRA PLATINUM BURSARY

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your online bursary application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Most recent and up-to-date academic record, if currently studying (on institution’s letterhead)
- Acceptance letter or conditionally acceptance letter from a higher education institutions, if not studying yet
- Proof of tertiary registration, if available
- Proof of Residence, not older than 3 months (stamped and signed letter from traditional councils or relevant local municipality)
- Proof that your parent/guardian is a SASSA grant recipient or an affidavit confirming that you fall into one of these vulnerable groups: orphaned children, unemployed households, and child-headed households, if applicable
Note: include the full name of your qualification when required (as written in acceptance letter or registration documents).
