ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – WEST WITS MINING

West Wits Mining is a growing South African mining company committed to developing gold and uranium projects within the historic Witwatersrand Basin. Operating near Johannesburg, the company is working to revive some of the region’s most well-known reef systems, including the Kimberley, Main and Bird Reefs, using a phased and sustainable mining approach. With underground operations already underway at its Qala Shallows project and progress toward its first gold production, West Wits Mining is playing an active role in creating new opportunities within the mining sector.

Through its bursary programme, the company aims to support ambitious students who want to build careers in mining, engineering and related fields, while contributing to the future growth of South Africa’s mining industry.
 

ABOUT THE WEST WITS MINING BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

West Wits Mining is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2026 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following fields:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Finance
  • Geology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mining Engineering

Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from industry professionals and contribute to shaping the future of Mining in South Africa.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WEST WITS MINING BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must intend on studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must intend on studying at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must be passionate and ambitious to embark on a transformative journey in the mining industry
  • Preference will be given to students residing in Wards 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 49, 70, and 127
