ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROVIDER – COMPETITION TRIBUNAL
The Competition Tribunal serves as the primary forum for addressing key competition law matters in South Africa. It is responsible for adjudicating large mergers, handling urgent interim relief applications, and ruling on complaints related to anti-competitive or prohibited practices.
Competition law qualifications are only offered by a limited number of institutions in the country, which is why the David Lewis Competition Law Scholarship was launched, named after the Tribunal’s first Chairperson.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION TRIBUNAL SCHOLARSHIP – FIELDS COVERED
The Competition Tribunal South Africa is inviting students to apply for the David Lewis Competition Law Scholarship, for the 2026 academic year.
The scholarship will fund studies towards a Masters in Law, with a focus on Competition Law.
The aim of the David Lewis Competition Law Scholarship is to support future changemakers in the world of competition law.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION TRIBUNAL SCHOLARSHIP – EXPENSES COVERED & SELECTION
The scholarship will provide cover for the following expenses: full tuition fees, books and study materials for the duration of the program, as well as vacation work opportunities within the Competition Tribunal.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within 2 weeks of the closing date, based on the following main criteria: academic merit, financial need, and alignment with the objectives of the Scholarship. If you do not receive any feedback, please consider your application unsuccessful.
Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed by a panel of experts to assess their potential and passion for competition law. Recipients will then be selected based on merit, need, and overall fit with the
Scholarship’s goals.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COMPETITION TRIBUNAL SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have secured admission or be enrolled in an accredited Masters program in Law
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised and accredited institution in South Africa
- You must have a strong academic record
- You be willing to conduct research for your thesis/ dissertation on a topic related/ relevant to competition law
- You must wish to pursue a career in competition law

- Proof of acceptance into an accredited Masters of Law program
