SABS Youth Development Internship Programme 2026/ 2027 (Pretoria, Gauteng)
ABOUT THE SABS INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is inviting unemployed graduates to apply for their Graduate Internship programme. Applications are open until 6 March 2026.
The programme will commence in April 2026 and run over a fixed term contract period of 12 months. During the programme, graduates will gain practical work exposure, mentoring and learning opportunities aligned to organisational and national skills priorities.
9 candidates will join the programme, and will each receive a monthly stipend of R8,000 for the duration of the Programme. The post will be located in Pretoria, Gauteng.
MORE ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
This programme is designed to give young people valuable, real-world experience through structured training and practical workplace exposure. It combines learning and hands-on work to help participants build skills, confidence, and professional experience.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
- Take part in organised training and development activities throughout the programme
- Gain practical experience by working in different departments through rotational assignments
- Support departmental projects, research tasks, and general administrative duties when needed
- Apply academic knowledge to real workplace situations
- Show initiative, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn and grow
- Follow company policies, procedures, and professional standards at all times
- Complete required assessments and submit progress reports during the programme
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to achieve shared goals

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is South Africa’s national standards authority, responsible for developing, promoting, and maintaining quality and safety standards across various industries. Established to support economic growth and consumer protection, SABS provides standardisation, testing, certification, and training services to businesses and government. Through its work, the organisation helps ensure that products and services meet reliable quality benchmarks, both locally and internationally.

SELECTION FOR THE INTERNSHIP

As part of the selection process, qualification verification will be conducted.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INTERNSHIP PROVIDER
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be between 18 and 35 years old
- You must have completed a relevant qualification (view the list of qualifications here (.pdf))
- You must have achieved a minimum academic average of 80% for the completed qualification
- You must have no formal work experience related to the field of study
- You must be currently unemployed
- Graduates with disabilities are encouraged to apply
