ABOUT THE PROGRAMME PROVIDER – ABSA

ABOUT THE ABSA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

Absa is inviting students to apply for their Fellowship Programme, for the 2026 academic year.

Scholarships will be awarded to 50 students, for studies within the following fields:

  • Commerce
  • Humanities and Social Sciences
  • STEM fields (Science [including Health science, but excluding Medical or veterinary studies], Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
  • Creative Arts
  • Digital / Data Design

The Absa Fellowship Programme is so much more than a regular scholarship or bursary programme. It is a leadership development programme, that provides candidates with financial support towards their studies, as well as the chance to participate in a specially curated leadership development programme created by Absa.

MORE ABOUT THE ABSA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME – EXPENSES COVERED & OTHER BENEFITS

The fellowship will provide cover for the following study related expenses: full tuition fees, textbooks, educational equipment, laptop, accommodation in university residence or private, meal allowance, monthly stipend, monthly data allowance, student medical aid cover.

Recipients will also receive the following benefits: leadership programme, travel if required, learner modules and guides, online lectures and assessments, emotional wellness check-in sessions and academic tutoring and mentoring.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the score achieved in the psychometric assessment. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ABSA FELLOWSHIP

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a citizen of one of these African countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Uganda or Ghana
  • You must be between 18 and 25 years old
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be entering your 1st year of undergraduate study in 2026
  • You must intend on studying towards an undergraduate degree qualification, within one of the fields of study listed above
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in Matric latest results
  • You must intend on studying at a public university in South Africa
  • You must be a leader

 

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ABSA FELLOWSHIP

Students who pass the pre-screening test will receive a voucher code via email to access the psychometric assessment. The email will come from the Absafellowship@fundi.co.za email address.

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Passport/ ID document if not an SA citizen (certified copy)
  • June 2025 preliminary results or final Matric results
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Proof of provisional or final acceptance from one of the aforementioned universities
  • Disability certificate, if applicable
  • Confirmation of tuition and accommodation fees
  • Proof of parents or guardians household income (payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA slip if applicable/ Pension slip if applicable/ proof of maintenance if parents are divorced/ death certificate if deceased) (certified copies)
