WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOE THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY BURSARY COVER?

The George Municipality is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded to students residing in George (Western Cape), for studies within the Municipal (local government sector) and related study fields. Preference will be given for studies within the following scarce skill fields:

  • Building Control/ Inspection
  • Civil Engineering (Roads/ Water Management)
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electrician
  • Environmental Management / Biodiversity
  • Financial related study fields
  • GIS & Land-use Management
  • Information Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Plumber
  • Renewable Energy Technologist
  • Urban & Regional Planning

WHAT IS THE VALUE AND RENEWAL PROCESS FOR THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

The municipality may award full or partial bursaries.

Bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time, and students must reapply for funding each year, which will be awarded based on bursary conditions.

Successful candidates will enter into a bursary agreement with the George Municipality.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAA FOR THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must permanently reside within the George Municipal area, in the Western Cape province
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric (in 2024 or 2025) at a school within the George Municipality area
  • Previous George Municipality bursary recipients may also apply
  • You must be studying or intend on studying within a Municipal (local government sector) and related study field
  • You must have a total household income of NOT more than R350 000 per annum
  • Preference will be given to students from designated groups

WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT FOR THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY BURSARY?

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID Document or birth certificate (certified copy – not older than 6 months)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Registration letter indicating the course enrolled for, subjects, quotation (or proof of payment) of registration paid, quotation of tuition fee and books
  • Letter of provisional / acceptance from the educational institution
  • Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ death certificate if deceased) (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians statement outlining household monthly expenses
  • Proof of residence in George (rates account/ utility bill/ proof of indigent household if applicable)
  • Continuing students: last years academic records (certified copy)

WHAT DOES THE GEORGE MUNICIPALITY DO?
