WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE BAKWENA BURSARY COVER?

The Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Pty) Ltd (Bakwena) is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2027 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for Undergraduate studies in ANY field, preferably for students residing within 6km of the Bakwena N1N4 route.

WHAT EXPENSES DOES THE BAKWENA BURSARY COVER?

The bursary will provide partial cover for tuition fees, up to the maximum value of R35 000, which will be paid directly to the institution.

Successful students will enter into a contract with Bakwena, which will reflect the terms of the bursary.

The bursary will be awarded for 1 year of study, renewable based on availability of funds and bursary holders satisfactory academic progress.

WHAT IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE BAKWENA BURSARY?

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be studying towards a qualification in ANY field
  • You must be entering your 2nd or higher year of university
  • You must be registered to study at a recognised and accredited University in South Africa
  • You must preferably reside within 6km of the Bakwena N1N4 route (from Tshwane to Bela-Bela (Warmbaths) and from Tshwane, westwards through Rustenburg and Zeerust, extending up to the Botswana border)
  • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% at university

WHAT IS THE BAKWENA PLATINUM CORRIDOR?

Bakwena Platinum Corridor Concessionaire (Bakwena) is a South African infrastructure company responsible for the operation, management, upgrading and maintenance of key sections of the N1 and N4 national highways. Together, these routes cover more than 385 kilometres and form important links for commuters, businesses and freight moving through the region.

The N1 route connects Tshwane with Bela-Bela, while the N4 Platinum Highway extends west from Tshwane through major centres including Rustenburg and Zeerust, continuing towards the Botswana border. Through its involvement in these strategic transport corridors, Bakwena contributes to the development and ongoing maintenance of South Africa’s road infrastructure.
