Bursaries will be awarded for studies within the following mining-sector related fields:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mining Engineering

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NORTHERN COAL BURSARY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards a qualification within one of the Engineering fields listed above
- You must be studying or registered to study at an accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must have achieved a minimum result of 60% in Mathematics and Science
- You must be self-disciplined and energetic
- You must have a positive and safe attitude
- You must have problem-solving skills
- You must be positive and committed to your own development and studies
- You must have good communication skills
- You must have a valid certificate of fitness or be able to obtain one, per the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act
- Preference will be given to students from local communities, in line with Northern Coal’s Employment Equity and Social & Labour Plan commitments, however students from other regions should also apply

- Latest academic transcripts, if currently studying (certified copy)
- Proof of provisional acceptance or registration at a tertiary institution, if applicable
- Proof of residence (water/ lights account or a signed affidavit)
